PHOENIX — Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Wednesday she wants Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake to stop her elections rhetoric and start focusing on policy issues ahead of November’s general election.

“I want her to pivot, and I want her to move in the direction of policy. That’s what elections are all about. People that are going to bring the state prosperity and the people of our state prosperity and well-owned government,” Brewer told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Gaydos and Chad Show.

“And I want her to stop the rhetoric about the elections. I mean, surely now she will. She won. Right? I think that she probably will put that behind her.”

Despite knowing Lake for years, still considering her a friend, Brewer plans to ask Lake about her stance on various issues, including her belief that the 2020 elections were stolen.

“I’m going to sit down with her and find out just exactly what her answer is going to be in regards to that,” Brewer said. “Unfortunately maybe she did think that, maybe she was ill-informed, but we need to get to the bottom of it.”

She added, “As chief election officer one time in my day, I know how elections are run and you know, that’s something that I have great faith in and it’s the basis of our democracy and everybody.”

Brewer served as Secretary of State of Arizona from 2003 to 2009.

Among the issues Brewer felt Lake should prioritize were water supply, economic development and child protective services.

“I would like to see the office of the governor of course to be in Republican hands and good leadership,” the former governor said.

Brewer endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson and served as a co-chair on her campaign.
