On Friday, Republicans in the U.S. Senate successfully filibustered the proposed bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Senator Sinema was not present to cast her vote. Sinema has rejected calls to eliminate the filibuster, saying that Senators instead need to change their behavior, and she implored her Republican colleagues to pass the the 1/6 Commission bill ahead of the expected filibuster. It's clear that Sinema's strategy will not work - Republicans are not interested in working with Democrats when they can easily wield the filibuster rule to block popular legislation. Senator Sinema must understand that continued defense of the Jim Crow filibuster is irresponsible and unacceptable to Arizonans. It's time to eliminate the arcane filibuster rule.
